It’s very easy to fall into the belief that leaders are people who are born, the ones who come along once in a million years and are already on their way to greatness. These people are generally not found in the trenches working alongside normal folk, but rather working in prestigious companies with massive offices that might even have a couch.

Tony Robbins says that leadership is defined by how much influence one can exert over another and expands this to explain that unless you are someone who has given control up over yourself to your body, or someone who doesn’t care about maintaining their own objectives and goals then you should already be or striving to be a leader, of at least one person. Yourself. In his speech he goes on to passionately explain that in reality leadership is a quality that everyone has and should be cultivated so that at the very least each person can stay motivated, and on path towards achieving their life successes. Whatever that may be.

Simon Sinek says that a leader is someone who can proudly articulate their beliefs publicly so that others who believe the same way and haven’t yet found the correct from of expressing it are drawn to them. Through this the leader can gather, motivate and help others who are looking for leadership to surpass obstacles that they never would have thought possible, either as a team or individually.

Leadership regardless of the definition has nothing to do with the role provided at a company and indeed seems to have everything to do with the level of human connection maintained.
